Grover Columbus Coffey was born on 28 September 1893 in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY.⁵¹²⁶ Grover registered for the WWI draft on 15 June 1917 and served in the US Army as a¹²⁴⁸¹ Wagoneer between 1917 and 1918. It is not known if he served overseas. Grover died on 30 March 1989 at the age of 95 in Contra Costa Co., CA and was buried at San Francisco National Cemetery in Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.^{12482,12483,12484,12485}

Registration data show that Grover was registered to vote in California as early as 1916 when he lived in Santa Monica. He remained at the same address (131 Pier Ave) until 1922 when he was found in LA city on Arvia St. In 1924 he was in Wiseburn, LA Co., residing at 10111 Inglewood Ave. By 1928 he was residing at 712 Ramona Ave in Albany, Alameda Co. where he remained through 1938.

In 1940 and 1942 both he and Florence were registered voters. In 1940 they were in the Linda Vista Pct., San Mateo Co. They resided on Valparaiso Ave. in 1940 and 1942.

Over the same period of time he went from restaurant manager to restaurant owner.

Grover Columbus Coffey and Florence B. Lemon were married circa 1921. They appeared in the census on 11 April 1930 in Albany, Alameda Co., CA.¹²⁴⁸⁶ Florence B. Lemon, daughter of William Lemon and Pearl May Goode, was born on 21 June 1903 in California.⁶⁵¹³ Florence died in Sacramento Co., CA on 26 January 1990.
