Ronald James Hollander

Ronald James Hollander, 91, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Preston House in Charlotte, NC. A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Henry and Jane Webb Hollander.

He attended the Clevenger Business College in Hickory and was a US Air Force Veteran, having served in World War II. He worked in the furniture industry and enjoyed raising tomatoes and bluegrass music, especially Bill Monroe. Mr. Hollander was appreciative of anything that was done in his behalf. Anyone that met Ronald James Hollander soon knew that they had met a man like none before. Ronald James loved God and his family very much.

He is survived by daughters, Shirley Arnette of Charlotte, Jana Pistole of Charlotte; sisters Dovie Plaster of Mar, VA, Mae Chilcott of Durham, NC; also Steve Arnette and Gerald Gragg were like the sons he never had; six grandchildren: Richard Arnette, Randy Arnette, Ronald Stuart Arnette, Ruth Pistole, Rebekah Pistole, Joshua Pistole; two great grandchildren: William Arnette and Samantha Rose Arnette; and Marcella Wilson of Jonas Ridge, whom he loved like a daughter.

Funeral services for Ronald Hollander will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Hollander Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the service hour Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mecklenburg County.
