Philip Cole Coffey, 74, of Lynchburg, passed away Oct. 23 at Lunchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Lou Hudson Coffey for 51 years.

Born in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Farrow Lawton Coffey and Mary Godsey Coffey. He served in the Korean Conflict, U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Paratrooper and was a lifetime member of the Elks and the Marine Corps League. He was retired from G.E. and was a former building contractor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Terry Lou Coffey Blatchley and he husband, James of Huntington, W. Va.; a brother, F. Lawton Coffey Jr. of Lynchburg; a sister, Phillis Layne of Monrovia, Calif.; two grandchildren, Allison and Angela; and his beloved cat Muffin.

A funeral service was conducted Oct. 26 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Corey Ingold. The family received friends after the service. Private burial took place with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16.
