Mr. Coffey had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Coffey was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 13, 1925 ; his mother on Feb. 9, 1931 ; four brothers, William Sidney Coffey on March 18, 1922 , Earl Rufus Coffey on April 14, 1968 , Sherman James Coffey on Sept. 12, 1972 , and Jesse Lee Coffey on July 23, 1989 ; and two sisters, Linnie G. Snodgrass on Feb. 18, 1973 and Elizabeth Caroline Behm on March 31, 1977. Mr. Coffey was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church , the Coffey Brothers Memorial American Legion Post #12 in Vienna and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was the owner and operator of Tom Coffey’s Swap Shop in Vienna for 52 years, retiring in 1977. Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Coffey at 11:00 a.m. , Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 in the Vienna United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Alden, pastor, officiating. The Vienna United Methodist Church Choir sang “Shall We Gather At The River”, “Precious Memories”, “Amazing Grace”, and “How Great Thou Art” for the funeral service and was accompanied by Beth Clinkenbeard and Sharon Bramlett who also provided the prelude and postlude. Interment was in the Vienna Cemetery under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers were Craig Crum, Jason Crum, Travis Crum, Ralph Wiles, Jimmy Orchard and Harold Rowden. Honorary pallbearers were Theron Nelson, Jerry Vaill, Betty Vaill, Ellis Crum Jr., Shirley Crum and Lawrence Buschmann. Full military honors were given by Bill Robbins, Ted Palmer, Basel Rushing, Bob Leonard, Tom Becherer and Mary Hamel, members of the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post #298 in Dixon . Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vienna Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. |
