Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Avery County, he was a son of Cleo Miller Coffey of Charlotte and the late Benson F. Coffey. A member of New Hopewell Baptist Church, he retired from the U.S. Army and as a captain with the Charlotte Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Polk Coffey; and two sisters, Miriam C. Cornett and Patricia C. Gragg. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three daughters, Prudence Marie Coffey of the home and Penelope Roxanne Coffey Hunt and Patricia Faye Coffey of Charlotte; three sisters, Jacqueline C. Davidson, Joyce C. Dieringer and Carolyn C. Nash of Charlotte; six grandchildren; six nephews; and a niece. The funeral will held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at his church. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Coffey Family Cemetery. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte. Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jimmy Charles Coffey and Bertie Janette Polk were married. Bertie Janette Polk, daughter of Howard Polk and May Berfield, was born on 14 November 1944 in River Bend, Gaston Co., NC.46194 Bertie died of an acute myocardial infarction and was probably buried at on 16 December 1997 at the age of 53 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC and was probably buried near her spouse at Cary Flat Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC.46195 Jimmy Charles Coffey and Bertie Janette Polk had the following children:
