Walker, Annette Coffey

Annette Coffey Walker, daughter of the late Esther Robertson Coffey and the late Dr. Ralph Ringo Coffey, M.D., both of Kansas City, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007, in Kansas City. Born on August 6, 1926, she was the first baby born in Wesley Hospital, Kansas City; which was founded by her maternal grandfather, Dr. J. Archie Robertson. She attended grade school and high school at Sunset Hill School for Girls. After graduation from Sunset Hill, she attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee for one year, before transferring to Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado. While at CU, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. On February 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dr. Hugh B. Walker, M.D. They resided in Clinton, Missouri for 25 years, where they raised their family. In later years they retired to North Palm Beach, Florida and were blessed to have celebrated 39 years of marriage before Dr. Walker's death in August, 1985. Mrs. Walker was an avid horse woman who enjoyed riding horses from an early age, first herding cattle on her grandfather's farm, and later earning many awards showing her saddle bred horse "American Beauty" at the American Royal as early as the age of 8. While living in Clinton, she continued her hobby, winning many championships with her 3-gaited and 5-gaited horses at numerous shows throughout the Midwest, including Saddle and Sirloin in Kansas City, The American Royal, and the Missouri State Fair. She also enjoyed volunteering for many years at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Piedmond Hospital and Swan Coach House in Atlanta and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach Florida. She is survived by her son, Michael B. Walker, Coconut Grove, Florida; and her daughter, Marsha (Marty) Johnson and her husband, Arlie of Leawood. Also surviving are two beloved grandchildren, Erin K. Robinson, Overland Park, KS; and Ryan B. Johnson, Charlotte, NC., two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Robinson and Tyler Robinson, as well as a cousin, Jack W. Coffey, Kansas City. Gravesite services will be held for friends and family in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Family also will be receiving friends the evening of Thursday, October 25th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at her daughter's home in Leawood. Condolences may be made at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO. The family requests any memorial donations made in Mrs. Walker's behalf should be designated to the American Cancer Society, or the Mid-America Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or a charity of your choice.

Nuptials Are Planned

Annette Coffey Engaged to Dr. Hugh B. Walker

Mrs. Robertson Coffey and Dr. Ralph Ringo Coffey announce the engagement of their daughter, Annette, to Dr. Hugh Browning Walker, son of Dr. and Mrs. G. S. Walker of Clinton, Mo. Miss Coffey attended Ward-Belmont college in Nashville, Tenn., and the University of Colorado in Boulder. Dr. Walker is a graduate of the University of Missouri and the school of medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He is now resident surgeon at St. Joseph's hospital. Their marriage will take place in the early spring. Dr. Hugh Browning Walker, son of George Shelby Walker and Pearl Browning, was born on 30 January 1918 in Harwood, Vernon Co., MO. Dr. Walker died on 17 August 1985 at the age of 67 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Co., FL and was buried at Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, Henry Co., MO on 20 August 1985.42158

Dr. Hugh Browning Walker, 67, formerly of Clinton and Kansas City, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, Saturday, August 17, 1985. He was born 30 January 1918. He had lived in Florida since March of 1981, after leaving Kansas City. Dr. Walker was in medical practice in Clinton, MO, for 25 years and was owner of the Town Country Nursing Home. He was a co-owner of Clinton General Hospital. Dr. Walker entered semi-retirement in 1971 and was on the student health medical staff at Georgia Tech. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Cincinnati. He attended the University of Missouri. He served his residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City. He was a member of the Christian Church of Clinton. He served as a medical officer in the US Navy from 1946-48. Dr. Walker is survived by his wife, Annette Coffey Walker, of the home; one son, Michael, of Miami, FL; a daughter, Marcia Johnson of Clinton; a sister, Mrs. C. W. Hall of Dade City, FL; two grandchildren, Erin and Ryan Johnson. Services will be Tuesday at the graveside in Englewood
