Elmer W. Coffey, 74, Stearns, died March 15 at Humana Hospital-Lake Cumberland. Funeral services were held March 18 at 1 p.m. at Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. David Troxell and Alvin Perry officiating. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery at Frank Coffey's place on Wolf Creek.

Born Sept. 12, 1913 in Wayne County to the late Bill and Laura Jones Coffey, he was a retired coal miner. He was married to Dorothy Coffey April. 4, 1942. Preceding him in death were a son, Dester S. Coffey; a brother Herman Coffey; and a sister, Laura McCoy.

He is survived by his wife of Stearns; children, Boyce D. Coffey, Ganel Dresbeck and Jessie Coffey, all of Sidney, Ohio, Boyd Coffey, Darrell Coffey and Norma Jean Inman, Stearns, Orville Lee Coffey, Troy, Ohio, and Sue Ann Shoopman, Piqua, Ohio; two brothers, Johnny Coffey and Jimmy Coffey, both of Stearns; two sisters, Darkie Clark, Stearns, and Angeline Thompson, Smithtown; and 16 grandchildren.

Dorothy Coffey, age 86 years, 11 months, and 17 days, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, Mar 22, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery.

She was born on April 5, 1922 in the Wolf Creek Community to Frank Coffey and Sally Belle Clark Coffey. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and quilting. Dorothy was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church and the Stearns Order of Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Elmer W. Coffey, a son, Dester S. Coffey, six brothers, Leroy, Henry, James, Frank Jr. "Bud," Grover and Hobert Coffey, four sisters, Adnia Gibson, Becky Coffey, Tonie Branscum and Cora Coffey, and one grandson, Earl Shepphard.

Survivors include five sons, Boyce D. Coffey and his wife, Bessie, of Sidney, Ohio, Boyd Coffey and his wife, Irene, of Stearns, Kentucky, Jessie Coffey and his wife, Hazel, of St. Paris, Ohio, Orville Lee Coffey and his wife, Bonnie, of Troy, Ohio, and Darrel Coffey, of Stearns, three daughters, Ganel Dresback and her husband, Ralph, of Somerset, Kentucky, Sue Ann Shoopman and her husband, Orville, of Piqua, Ohio, and Norma Jean In?, of Whitley City, Kentucky, three sisters, Dova Morrow, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Hazel Branscum, of Pine Knot, and Vinnie Clark, of Stearns, seventeen grandchildren, and twenty five great grandchildren.

Child Dies of Chicken Pox And Complications

Dester Sherman Coffey, seven year old son of Elmer and Dorothy Coffey, Hill Top, died at the Thompson Clinic in Oneida, Tenn., on November 29. Death was due to chicken pox and complications. Dester was a student at the Wolf Creek school, where he was a good student, a friendly child, beloved by his playmates. He is survived by his parents, and three brothers, Boyce Dean, Boyd Frank and Jessie.

Funeral services were held at the home of the grandfather on December 1, with the Rev. Ross Dobbs in charge. Burial was in the Coffey cemetery. Sympathy is extended the family in their bereavement. [Source: Theresa Stephens, thunderbird584@comcast.net]
