Erastus enlisted in the US Army on 9 September 1850 at Fort Martin Scott at Fredericksburg, Gillespie Co., TX. He was discharged on 4 February 1853 at Fort Martin Scott in Fredericksburg, Gillespie Co., TX⁴⁰⁰⁶ Erastus resided with the Joseph Granger family, also of New York, in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX on 21 July 1860. Erastus enlisted in the 2d Regiment, Texas Mounted Volunteers on 15 April 1861 at San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX. On May 23, 1861 this Regiment was transferred to the Confederate States Army.⁴⁰⁰⁷ Erastus died in Texas in 1882 and was buried at Hext Cemetery in Hext, Menard Co., TX in 1882 .^4008,4009
