Elvira died on 13 April 1977 at the age of 92 in Amherst Co., VA and was buried at Saint Stephens Baptist Church Cemetery in Amherst, Amherst Co., VA.¹⁴⁴⁵²

High Wedding.

The editor of the Nelson County Times seems to be either a parson or a squire. We find the following as the leader in last week's issue of that paper:

On top of the mountain at the head of Freshwater Cove, at the home of Mr. Nelson Johnson, on Wednesday, the writer joined in marriage Mr. Melville [sic] Ponton and Miss Elvira Coffey. Miss Mary Eliza Johnson with W. T. Campbell, Miss Nora Mawyer with Robert Stevens, Miss Minnie Johnson with Henry Coffey, Miss Lelia Coffey with Frank Mawley. Quite a number of friends witnessed the ceremony and afterwards a sumptious table was spread for the guests. As we rode away about sunset the voice of the violin was heard in the land and visions of merriment were flitting before the eyes of the young people assembled. "Mel" Ponton was born on 4 October 1875 in Nelson Co., VA. Melvin died in Nelson Co., VA on 22 September 1956 and was buried at Saint Stephens Cemetery in Arrington, Nelson Co., VA in September 1956 .¹⁴⁴⁵⁸
