Lenoir, Oct. 7 - the death today of Randolph Jones Carter, 60, farmer of Route 1, Lenoir, has been ruled suicide by acting coroner Darrell Goble. Carter was found hanging from a rope in the loft of a small barn about 200 yards from his home, it was reported. It was said he was found by his wife. Goble made the ruling in the absence of his his father, Coroner Claude Goble, who is out of town. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moriah Chapel Methodist Church, with the Rev. G. L. Lovett and the Rev. G. L. Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Carter was born in Caldwell County. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Margaret Hartley Carter, are one son, Hill Carter of Route 1, Ferguson; three daughters, Miss Martha Carter of Dover, Del., Mrs. Clifton Broyhill of Route 1, Lenoir, and Mrs. William Parlier of Charlotte; one brother, Dr. George Carter of Taylorsville; and one sister, Mrs. Virginia Coppage of Route 1, Lenoir.
