Between 1871 and 1879 he was on the voters list in Taylorsville, Plumas Co., CA . In 1885 he in Clark Co., Washington Territory9050 Bennie Coffey Loftin research indicates that Wyatt, born c1835 in TN, and son of Thomas and Polly Hipsher Coffey in TN, resided in California in 1860. There is a Wyatt Coffer [sic], age 25 on page 74 of the 1860 Indian Valley, Quincy PO, Plumas Co., CA census. He was born c1835 in TN, was living alone, and was employed as a "packer." This Wyatt, whose surname still appears to me to be Coffer, was found enumerated on page 9 in the 1870 Indian Valley, Plumas Co. With him was wife Polly, age 30, an Indian, born CA, and two children: Thomas J., age 9, and Martha, age 4, both born in CA. In 1880 his surname is clearly Coffey. The family is found in ED85, page 23 of the Plumas Co., CA census. Included was Polly, his wife, age 35, Jeff, son, age 17; Martha, dau., age 15; Ira [?], age 12; Harry, age 9; Rosa, age 4; and Eda [sic], age 1. Polly and all of the children were enumerated as Indian. The 1885 Clark Co., WA census lists W. Coffey, age 45 or 49, a saloon keeper born in TN. With him is Ira, age 19, Harry, age 14, and Rosa, age 10. The 1900 census for Salmon Creek, Clark Co., WA enumerated Rosie E. Coffee [sic] as a servant in the Andrew Belongia household. She was born in CA on July 1876. Her father was born in TN and her mother was born in CA. The WWI draft registration files contain a card for an Ira Coffey, age 24, in Vancouver, WA. He was born Jun. 26, 1892 in Vancouver. I have not yet found any of the other children of Wyatt and Polly. It appears that Wyatt did abandon Polly, and perhaps motivated by a desire to evade the approaching war, departed Tennessee and headed west! A quick search of the census records found Wyatt Coffee, age 25, in the 1860 record for Indian Valley, Quincy PO, Plumas Co., CA. He was unmarried, living alone, and employed as a "packer." By 1870 he was married and had two children. His wife was enumerated as Polly, age 30, an "Indian" born in CA. Their children were Thomas, age 9, and Martha, age 4, both born in CA and enumerated as "Indian." The family was still in Plumas Co. in 1880. Children were Jeff, age 17; Martha, age 15; Ira, age 12; Harry, age 9; Rosa, age 4; and Eda [sic], age 1. Polly and the children were enumerated as "Indian." Polly apparently died before 1885 when Wyatt was enumerated in the Clark Co., WA Terr. census. W. Coffey, age 45 (or, 49?), born in TN, was a saloon keeper. In the household was Ira, age 18; Harry, age 14; and Rosa, age 10. I have not found any further information about Wyatt or any of the children except Rosa. He was born Jun. 26, 1892 in Vancouver, and was probably not the son of Wyatt and Polly. As an aside, I found Melissa Place in the Washington State and Territorial Census of 1883, (Image 54) Clark County, with her then husband, George H. Place, who was 18 years older than she. Her two boys were on that census. She later went on to marry someone named Thompson. There were two Ira Coffee(y)s. One was Wyatt Coffee’s grandson, through his son Harry, born 26 June 1892. Hipshire were married on 4 October 1854 in Grainger Co., TN.9051 Julia A. Hipshire, daughter of Colbert Hipshire and Jane Hayes, was born in December 1840 in Grainger Co., TN. She lived with her parents in Grainger Co., TN on 15 August 1860. Julia died in Grainger Co., TN in 1911 and was buried at Dalton Cemetery in Bean Station, Grainger Co., TN in 1911 .9052 Wyatt Coffey and Polly appeared in the census on 21 July 1860 in Quincy, Indian Valley, Plumas Co., CA.9053 They9053 were married. They appeared in the census on 28 July 1870 in Taylorsville, Indian Twp., Plumas Co., CA.9054 Wyatt and Polly9054 appeared in the census on 26 June 1880 in Plumas Co., CA.9055 Polly was born circa 1840 in California. Wyatt Coffey and Ida were married. Ida appears to have been previously married to a Mr. Place. The two Place children in the 1887 Washington Territory census are likely her children.
