Howard W. Coffey, 88, of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 22, 1922 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Claude A. Coffey, Sr. and Ollie Bogle Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Coffey, two sisters, Francis McAuley and Helen Silver.

Mr. Coffey was a United States Air Force veteran and a member of Concord Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Hilda B. Coffey of the home; one daughter, Tonya Starnes of Granite Falls; son-in-law, Keith Starnes of Granite Falls; and grandson, Eric Starnes of Granite Falls; one brother, Claude Coffey, Jr. of Granite Falls; two sisters, Alice Starnes of Melbourne, FL, and Hilda Bare of Raleigh, N.C.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lovelady Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Perry officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Brady, Charlie Brady, Jr., Jeff Walker, Sonny Walker, Charles Laney, Jim Moore, Michael Frisk, Jody Starnes, Todd McAuley, Barry Coffey, John Lee McAuley, Kenny Silver, Mike Silver and Chris Bare.

Coffey and Hilda Marie Bumgarner were married on 14 December 1946 in Caldwell Co., NC.⁴⁴²⁴⁵ Hilda Marie Bumgarner, daughter of Thomas Wiley Bumgarner and Florence Bell Hayes, was born on 11 October 1926 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.⁴⁴²⁴⁶ Hilda died on 4 December 2011 at the age of 85 in Granite Falls, Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at Lovelady Baptist Church Cemetery in Lovelady, Caldwell Co., NC on 6 December 2011.⁴⁴²⁴⁷

Hilda Bumgarner Coffey, 85, of Granite Falls passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Howard W. Coffey, and her parents, Thomas Wiley Bumgarner and Florence Bell Hayes Bumgarner.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Bumgarner McLean, Pearl Bumgarner Kirby, and Daisy Bumgarner Pipes, and three brothers, Oscar Bumgarner, Earl Bumgarner, and Clyde R. (Pete) Bumgarner. She retired from Shuford Mills after 45 years of service and was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Tonya Coffey Starnes and son-in-law, Keith Starnes, and grandson, Eric Starnes, all of Granite Falls; sister, Pauline Bumgarner Brady; brothers, James Bumgarner and his wife, Phyllis, and Boyd Bumgarner and his wife, Annie, all of Granite Falls.

Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. at Lovelady Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Lovelady Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Brady, Charlie Brady Jr., Sonny walker, Jeffrey Walker, Michael Fousk, Charles Laney, Kenny Silver, Barry Coffey and Jim Moore. The family would like to thank the Hospice Home Health Team for their loving concern and excellent care during the last several months.
