Oscar C. Hollar

Oscar Coy Hollar, 86, of the Brethren Home Community, and formerly of Hanover, died Friday, December 2, 2005. Mr. Hollar was born April 20, 1919, in Caldwell County, N.C. to the late David Lee and Martha Emma (Gregg) Hollar. He was married for 58 years to Willa Jean (Cheek) Hollar, who died in 2003.

He was employed for more than 20 years by Furniture Maker’s Supply, in Lexington, N.C.. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hanover.

Survivors include three sisters: Opal Bollin, Conover, N.C., Mary Williams and Shirley Bumgardner, both of Lenoir, N.C., four brothers: Marvin Hollar, Newland, N.C., Thomas and Doyle Hollar, both of Hudson, N.C. and O.D. Hollar, Charlotte, N.C.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, in the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, with the Reverend Dr. Thomas K. Cartwright officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 10 a.m., until the service. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, and will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in remembrance of Coy can be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover.

Oscar Coy Hollar and Willa Jean Cheek were married circa 1945. Willa died in North Carolina in 2003.
