1921. Dr. Laurence Henry Coffey was born on 23 December 1875 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree on 10 March 1906 from the Medical College of Virginia.⁷²⁴⁷ He registered for the WWI draft on 12 September 1918 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.⁷²⁴⁸ Dr. Coffey was recognized on 23 July 1933 in the at Greensboro Daily News for his "workmanlike book" Thomas Coffey and his Descendants..⁷²⁴⁹ Dr. Coffey died of apoplexy on 3 September 1944 at the age of 68 at Crowell Hospital in Lincolnton Twp., Lincoln Co., NC and was buried at Moore-David Cemetery in Collettsville, Caldwell Co., NC on 4 September 1944.^{7250,7251,7252}

Services are Held for Dr. L. H. Coffey

Lenoir, Sept. 6 - Dr. Lawrence H. Coffey, 69, formerly of Caldwell county, died Sunday afternoon in a Lincolnton hospital after suffering a stroke Saturday at his summer home at Blowing Rock. Funeral was held Tuesday at Waxhaw. Burial was at the Coffey family cemetery near Collettsville.

Dr. Coffey was the son of the late Henry C. and Saphronia Coffey. He was an examining physician for Caldwell county during world war I, practiced medicine in Caldwell county for several years and later located in Waxhaw, near Charlotte.

The deceased donated the land for the First Advent Christian church of Lenoir and was a charter member and leader in that denomination here.

The deceased is survived by his wife, the former Adah Mae Costner; one daughter, Mrs. Archie King, Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Capt. Jack Coffey, San Antonio, Texas; William D. Coffey, Charlotte; one brother, D. C. Coffey, North Wilkesboro; and three grandchildren.

Dr. Coffey compiled the book Thomas Coffey and his Descendants, published by Newell Sanders, his cousin.

Dr. Laurence Henry Coffey and Florence Powell were married on 12 April 1898 in Lower Creek, Caldwell Co., NC.⁷²⁵³ They⁷²⁵³ lived with his parents in Johns River Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 11 June 1900. They were divorced in November 1905 in North Carolina. Florence Powell, daughter of Haywood G. Powell and Clarisa Jane E. Coffey, was born in April 1882 in North Carolina.¹⁹⁷⁶

They appeared in the census on 30 April 1910 in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC.⁷²⁵⁵ They⁷²⁵⁵ appeared in the census on 20 January 1920 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.⁷²⁵⁶ Adah Mae Costner, daughter of William Alonzo Costner and Sarah Emma Frazier, was born on 12 May 1885 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC. Adah Mae died of a femeral thrombosis on 5 December 1973 at the age of 88 at Providence Convalescent Residence in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC and was buried at Moore-David Cemetery in Collettsville, Caldwell Co., NC on 6 December 1973.^7257,7258
