Wilkes Resident Kills Himself

North Wilkesboro, May 15 - Manley Winford Coffey, 39, was found dead at noon today near his home in the McGrady community.

M. W. Green Jr., Wilkes acting coroner, said death was caused by a self-inflicted revolver wound in his temple and termed the death suicide after his investigation.

He was born in Wilkes County. He was a member of Pine View Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rena Adams Coffey; four sons, Dewitt, Roger, Sammy and Tommy Coffey, all of the home; five brothers, Floyd, Jimmy and Cecil Coffey of Route 1, North Wilkesboro; Clyde Coffey of Flint, Mich., and Paul Coffey, stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Monday and Mrs. Ruth Severt of Germantown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine View Baptist Church by the Rev. Clate Brown. Burial will be in Mount Lawn Memorial Park.

Manley Winford Coffey and Rena Ann Adams were married. Rena Ann Adams was born on 9 February 1920 in Wilkes Co., NC. Rena died at home in McGrady, Wilkes Co., NC on 16 April 2006 and was buried at Mountlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in North Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC in April 2006 .30466

Mrs. Rena Ann Adams Coffey, age 86, of McGrady, widow of Manley W. Coffey died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at her home.

Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Coffey was born in Wilkes County, February 9, 1920, to James Presley and Dora Sebastian Adams. She was a member of Pine View Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Coffey is preceded in death by a son, Samuel Franklin Coffey.

Mrs. Coffey is survived by three sons, Dewitt Coffey and wife, Barbara of McGrady, William Roger Coffey and wife, Maggie of Clover, SC, Thomas Wayne Coffey of North Wilkesboro; four sisters, Lucy Adams Griggs of Salisbury, Reba Adams Dillard of North Wilkesboro, Grace Adams Hall of High Point, Clara Jean Adams Wagoner of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Arvil Adams of Acworth, GA; three grandchildren; six great, grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren.

Manley Winford Coffey and Rena Ann Adams had the following children:

Samuel Franklin Coffey was born on 25 December 1948 in Wilkes Co., NC. Samuel died in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC on 4 November 1968 of rheumatic heart disease and was buried at Mountlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in North Wilkesboro, Wilkes Co., NC in November 1968 .30467
