Campbell, son of Francis Jefferson Campbell and Sarah Ann Grove, was born on 4 November 1847 in Nelson Co., VA.

The marriage record for this couple indicates that Jacob was aged 19 yrs., 11 mos., and 17 days when he married on Oct. 24, 1867. This resolves to a birthdate of Nov. 1848. Jacob died on 21 January 1934 at the age of 86 in Staunton, Independent City., VA and was buried at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Independent City., VA on 22 January 1934.^4863,4864

Jacob H. Campbell, eighty-six, died at eight-thirty o'clock Sunday morning at his home near Olivet church after an illness of fourteen months. Mr. Campbell was born in Nelson county, Nov. 4, 1847, but spent practically his entire life in Augusta county, where he farmed. He was a son of Francis and Sarah Grove Campbell. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ella Dodd, Mrs. John Hanover, Mrs. E. O. Carr, all of this county; two brothers, William Campbell, Buchanan; Francis Campbell, this county; a half-brother, Ulysses Campbell, this county; four sisters, Mrs. E. W. Robertson, Mabscott, W. Va.; Mrs. H. A. Coffey, Roanoke; Mrs. Marian Coffey, Lynchburg; Mrs. Lucy Grove, this county; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral was held this afternoon at three o'clock from the residence, conducted by the Rev. Dr. G. G. Martin, of Central Methodist church of which he was a member, assisted by the Rev. W. W. Sprouse, of the Third Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Thornrose cemetery.
