19601. J. E. "Ned" Coffey was born on 1 September 1921 in Comanche, OK. Ned died on 24 May 2010 at the age of 88 in Del Rio, Val Verde Co., TX. A memorial service was held on May 28, 2010 at Cox Memorial Funeral Home in Del Rio. His burial place was not announced.

DEL RIO J E "Ned" Coffey, 88, passed way May 24, 2010 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born September 1, 1921 in Comanche, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Gladys "Neta" Coffey whom he married September 1, 1947; son, Ken Hatch of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Jane Hatch of Odessa; his granddaughter, Xyan McWilliams and husband, Alan of Brackettville; great-granddaughter, Megan McWilliams of Dallas; great-grandson, Mason McWilliams of Corpus Christi; nieces, Queta Barnhart and husband Wayne of Odessa and Sissy Kennedy and husband Jimmy of Odessa. He was preceded in death by his Father Perry Coffey and Mother Ola Coffey; sisters, Evelyn and Maxine; and a nephew, Billy Hopkins.

Ned Graduated from Odessa High School in 1940 and served in U.S. Army 1942-'45 during World War II as a Sergeant. His tour of duty during the European Theater included Sicily, Italy & North Africa in which he was awarded 4 Bronze Stars during his service. He owned his own business – Reliable Machine and Supply – in Odessa. Ned devoted much of his spare time hunting all over the Southwestern U.S. When he wasn't hunting, he was fishing at Lake Amistad and the Texas coast. He was one of the original 13 founding members of the Permian Bass Club.

Ned was recognized in 2007 by the National Commander of the American Legion as an outstanding and dedicated member of Post 430 for over 60 years of service.

He and his beloved wife of 63 years, Neta Coffey, have enjoyed a lifetime of hunting and fishing with family and friends. Ned never missed an opportunity to be with and watch his great-grandchildren participating in stock shows, school athletics or taking them to the lake to fish. Ned's life was filled with love, fun and many great adventures.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. May 28 at G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
