He enlisted on 3 September 1861 in Lamkin's Amherst-Nelson Light Artillery Regiment in Massies Mill, Nelson Co, VA.⁵¹⁸⁸ James died in Charleston, Charleston Co., SC on 18 July 1862.¹³³³

Coffey and Edward Addison Fitzgerald were married on 2 June 1865 in Nelson Co., VA.⁵¹⁸⁹ They^⁵¹⁸⁹ appeared in the census on 30 August 1870 in Nelson Co., VA.⁵¹⁹⁰ Edward Addison Fitzgerald, son of Woodson Robert Fitzgerald and Frances Mandy Coffey, was born circa 1838 in Nelson Co., VA. He lived with the John Painter family. in Nelson Co., VA on 6 July 1860. Edward died in 1915 at the age of 77 in Virginia and was buried at Barren Ridge Cemetery in Barren Ridge, Augusta Co., VA.
