Born March 4, 1926, in Charleston, he was the son of the late Fletcher and Dorothy Garrett Coffey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Following his military service, he graduated from Marshall College with a BA in accounting. He was a registered public accountant in private practice for over 40 years. He was a member of Cross Lanes United Methodist Church. His first wife, JoAnn Campbell Coffey; a sister, Connie Vanzile; and a grandson, Michael Shawn Coffey, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Wanda Coffey; sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and Bob Combs of Nitro; brother, Leland Coffey of Hurricane; a special sister-in-law, Wanetta Morris of Ripley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary A. and Kathy Coffey of Morristown, N.J., and Michael J. and Nancy Coffey of Huntington; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Scott Taylor of Sanford, Fla.; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Fred Coleman of Culloden and Chuck and Veronica Coleman of Hurricane; 10 grandchildren, Matt, Justin, Josh, Olivia and Tess Coffey, Ashley Taylor, Cindy Coleman, Susie Combs, Chucky Coleman and Jessica Coleman; and four great-grandchildren, Regan, Sean, Alex and Carmen. The family would like to thank special neighbors, Jerry Young and Rob Johnson, for their help and assistance during his illness. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Dr., Cross Lanes, with Dr. Greg Hayes officiating. Wanda Alice Garrett, daughter of Jess W. Garrett and Golda Davis, was born on 27 October 1925. Mrs. Coffey was the daughter of the late Jess W. Garrett and Golda Davis Garrett of Dunbar. She was born October 27, 1925, and died at the age of 84. Mrs. Coffey was a graduate of Cincinnati Institute of Pharmacology and was a retired pharmacist since 1986. She was a longtime member of Cross Lanes United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett C. Coffey; son, Frederick A. Coleman; sister, Joan Gray; and grandson, Mikey Coffey. Surviving are her twin sister, Wanetta Morris; stepsons, Gary A. Coffey and his wife, Kathy, and Michael J. Coffey and his wife, Nancy; stepdaughter, Julie Ann Taylor; son, Charles F. Coleman II and his wife, Veronica; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Gregory Hayes officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
