Jennings, Ruby Jones Monroe, of Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg, died on April 1, 2009. She was born on October 22, 1918, in Pittsylvania County and moved to Lynchburg. She was the daughter of Charles Burke Jones and Hassie Coffey Jones; and the wife of the late Bernard Harvey Monroe Jr. and the late Woodrow W. Jennings, all formerly of Lynchburg.

She was one of seven daughters including the late Ruth Bailey, Elsie Updike, Mildred Towler, Maggie Saunders and Helen Jennings. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bernard H. and Cynthia B. Monroe of Midlothian; a stepson, Richard Allen Jennings of Concord; a sister, Doris Tucker of Richmond; five grandchildren, Erin Monroe Ledlie and husband, David, Josephine Monroe Kurz and husband, Michael, and Kirk Beall Monroe and wife, Amanda, all of Midlothian, and Tara Jennings Vames and husband, Steven and Richard A. Jennings Jr., both of Lynchburg; five great-grandchildren, Kate and Stephen Ledlie, Madeline and Claire Kurz, all of Midlothian, and Morgan Campbell of Lynchburg; 17 nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Delia Gill Olsen of Bedford.

She was a former member of the Fort Hill Women's Club and the Timbrook Woman's Club and a lifelong member of Euclid Christian Church, which she dearly loved. She was a wonderful mother, wife, sister and grandmother and lived a full life during her 90 years. Her positive spirit and loving personality will live on in the hearts of her family and wonderful friends.

A committal service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Edward Parrish III officiating. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Euclid Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mended Little Hearts of Central Virginia (MLH CVA). MLH CVA is a support group for families of children with heart defects and disease. Ruby's great-granddaughter, Claire, was born with heart defects requiring open heart surgery at 11 weeks. Ruby was so proud of Claire's strength and perseverance, qualities they shared. Donations may be sent to Mended Little Hearts of Central Virginia, 500-102 Kerri Cove Way, Midlothian, Va. 23113.
