He lived with his parents in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA on 30 January 1920. Jesse lived with his parents in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA on 16 April 1930. Jesse died at home in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA on 28 June 1951 from degeneration of brain tissue and was buried at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuarts Draft, Augusta Co., VA in June 1951 .^29634,29635

Jesse James Coffey, 52, died at 5 a.m. today at his home in Oakhill, Waynesboro Route 2.
Born May 22, 1899, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Marcellus and Teresa Fitzgerald Coffey. He had been a farmer all his life and was a member of the Stuarts Draft Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Atkins Coffey; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Phillips, Route 2, Waynesboro; Mrs. T. F. Sweet, Roanoke; one brother, John Coffey, Stuarts Draft; three half-brothers, Lee, Washington; Herbert, of Waynesboro; and Charles, with the U. S. army; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ella Fretwell and Mrs. Margaret Robertson, both of Stuarts Draft; and a step-mother, Mrs. Effie Coffey, Stuarts Draft.

Body will remain at Etter Funeral Home until the hour of service. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. W. W. Crady, assisted by the Rev. Scott C. Hutton, with interment in the Calvary Church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be T. O. Tench, Homer Lawrence, William Lawrence, Arch Crow, Charles Chandler, Pilson Cohron, and Warren Moses.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Riddle, Edward Rodes, Clyde Argenbright, Newton Fitzgerald, H. Duke and Emmett Strickler.

Jesse James Coffey and Rosa Atter Atkins were married on 11 January 1934 in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA. Rosa Atter Atkins was born on 11 October 1895. Rosa died on 30 August 1982.
