He was born December 11, 1936, in Caldwell County, son of the late William Glenn Coffey and Annie Rivers Coffey. Mr. Coffey served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired construction worker. He was also of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Guy Coffey; a sister, Joyce Coffey McLain; and two great-grandchildren, James Wesley Minnick and Cody Glenn James. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Lucille Pearson Coffey of Leland; two sons, Clifford Clay Coffey, Sr. of Hiddenite, and Beauford Glenn Pearson of Leland; three daughters, Patricia Ann Coffey Chazis of Taylorsville, Sandra Sue Coffey of Leland, and Debra Lynn Coffey of Hiddenite; four sisters, Loretta Phillips of Lexington, Shirley Willard, Lorain Tedder and Linda Sipe, all of Taylorsville; eight grandchildren, Jason Michael Wayne Pearson, Willie Picket and wife Cindy, Dustin James, Amanda Surken and husband Anthony, Janda Baugess and husband Billy, Jessie Coffey and wife Tracy, James Derek Coffey, and Clifford Clay Coffey, Jr.; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Boones Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Osborne officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
