She taught school in the early 1930s in the Cocke County School System at Midway, Harmony Grove, Rankin, O'Dell, McNabb, and Bridgeport. She was a devoted long-time member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Bible Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford E. Shockley; parents, Billy Frank and Mattie Balch Easterly; brother, James Frederick Easterly; daughter, Polly Shockley Jones; and grandson, Kerry Frank Jones. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bud Dawson, of Bybee; son, Billy Shockley, of Newport; grandchildren, Tony and Stacy Dawson, of Bybee, Julie Dawson, of Bybee, Eric Dawson, of Knoxville, Terry Jones, of Louisiana, Debbie Jones Bryant, Kristy Jones Hunt, and Lori Jones, all of Cosby, and Lisa Jones Patrick, of Oak Ridge. She had 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 25, with services at 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Freddrick Long officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Baptist Convalescent Center.
