Hewitt, 77, of 817 Rosser Ave., died Wednesday evening in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born in Augusta County, April 4, 1908, a son of Bert and Josie Bridge Hewitt. Mr. Hewitt was employed at Du Pont Co. for 30 years prior to retirement in 1967. He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder and trustee. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Polly Schumacher Hewitt of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Wyant of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Pauline Madarasz of Long Island, N. Y.; four brothers, E. M. Hewitt of Swoope, W. O. Hewitt, F. C. Hewitt and W. C. Hewitt, all of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Atwell E. Hewitt, in 1960. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in McDow Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. M. Bland Dudley. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Larew, Robert Johnston, Robert Missman, A. O. Stanley, Hugh Robertshaw and Mosby Toms. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. T. L. Gorsuch, Dr. C. W. Caulkins, E. B. McMullin, B. A. Brown, P. S. Lackey, Ellwood Layman, Robert Rhodes, E. H. Swink, Harding Lonas and E. B. Young. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, or Waynesboro First Aid Crew. Ray Luther Hewitt and Polly Schumacher were married. Polly Schumacher was born in 1908. Polly died in 1999 and was buried at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA in 1999 .42888 |
