Coffee, 69, of 151 Old Starnes Cove Road, Asheville, died Sunday in an Asheville hospital. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late P. G. [sic] and Mary Briggs Coffey. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Sadie Greene Coffey; two daughters, Joyce Tweed of Asheville and Charlene McConnell of Calabash; a son, James Coffey, Jr., of Asheville; his step-mother, Lizzie Coffey of Ashville [sic]; four sisters, Viola Shelton and Pearl Messer of Hazelwood, Ada Mashburn of Waynesville and Evelyn Hatton of Lexington, Ky.; three half sisters, Lucille Edwards and Meredith Wilburn of Marshall and Ester Bailey of Mars Hill; a brother Frank Coffey of Maggie Valley; four half brothers, Carroll Coffey of Marshall and Anderson, Floyd and Leonard Coffey all of Mars Hill; and five grandchildren. Graveside services were held Wednesday in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Furman Wilson officiated. James Marion Coffey Sr. and Sadie Greene were married. Sadie Greene was born on 2 December 1929 in Madison Co., NC. Sadie died at Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, Buncombe Co., NC on 7 December 2006 and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Enka, Hominy Twp., Buncombe Co., NC in December 2006 .39364 Sadie Greene Coffey of Asheville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Coffey was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the late McKinley Tilson and Mary Emmaline Wilde Greene. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Marion Coffey, who died in 1988; and by two brothers, Albun and Walter Greene. Mrs. Coffey was an avid bowler, a member of the Joyful Noise Band of West Asheville Baptist Church, and was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church, where she was a teacher of the Adult Women Sunday School Class. Surviving Mrs. Coffey are two daughters, Joyce Tweed and husband Raymond, of Asheville, and Charlene McConnell and husband John, of Unicoi, TN; son, James Coffey, Jr., and wife Sharon, of Asheville; three sisters, Easter Fisher and Irene Fox, both of Asheville, and Christine Coffey, of Waynesville; two brothers, Clenard Greene, of Weaverville, and MT Green, of Mars Hill; beloved sister-in-law, Ada Mashburn, of Waynesville; grandchildren, Mandy and Hillary Tweed, John McConnell, II, Shannon McConnell, Devon Bacon, Julia and Jesse Coffey, and Troy Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jessica McConnell, John McConnell, III, and Ezekiel Bacon.
