Roy Rogers Coffey, 73, of Newport, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jack Mumford officiating.

Mr. Coffey was born December 26, 1939, in Lenoir, NC to Ralph Jerome and Ellen Beatrice Pope Coffey.  He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era, and was a carpenter in the construction business.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Brasiel Coffey; daughters, Donna Gail Holtsclaw of Martinsville, VA, Alicia Vaughn of Newport, NC; sons, Mikeal Anthony Coffey and wife, Regina, of Morganton, NC, and Nathan Dewight Coffey of Morganton, NC; sister, Kimerly Coffey Hall of Lenoir, NC; brothers, Stanley Coffey of Henderson, NC, Gary Coffey of Lenoir, NC, and Gene Coffey of Oxford; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In addition to his parents, his brothers, Jerry Coffey and Larry Coffey (infant) preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carteret General Hospital Foundation for Hospice Fund, P. O. Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC  28557.
