Bede J. Skaggs, 78, retired Baptist Minister died at the Metzmeier Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for several weeks, Tuesday, April 9, 1968 at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. J. Chester Badgett, Dr. J. L. Robinson and the Rev. Paul Whitler in charge of the services. Burial was in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Rev. Skaggs lived at 304 Meador St., Campbellsville. He was born in Green County, September 8, [sic-10] 1880, son of Mary R. Hodge and John H. Skaggs. He was a graduate of Bethel College, Russellville, Ky., and Georgetown College. He attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He was retired from the ministry but served many years as pastor, Kentucky Baptist Board Wosrk, Evangelist and Teacher in the following order. Salem Baptist Church, Taylor County (first church); Forks of Dix River Baptist Church in Garrard County Paint Lick, Ky.; Woodburn Baptist Church, Ten years; Friendship Baptist Church, 13 years; South Campbellsville Baptist Church 9 years (from 1937 to 1946); Teacher Men's Bible Class of Campbellsville Baptist Church until 1950 and did Evangelistic work for several years.
