Miss Coffey, Mr. Strawn Marry

Staunton - A wedding of interest was celebrated in Bethel Presbyterian Church Saturday, June 19, when Miss Betty Marie Coffey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leonard Coffey of Mint Spring, Augusta County, became the bride of Mr. Harvey Sanford Strawn of South Bend, Ind. The Rev. Harry S. Coffey of Covington, uncle of the bride, officiated, assisted by her pastor, the Rev. Harry W. Craver.

The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. J. Austin Coffey of Palmyra. Miss Ethel Ray Coffey, a sister, was maid of honor, and Mrs. B. H. Hudson of Orange, another sister, matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Misses Ruth and Ruby Miller of Luray; Virginia Hamilton of Deerfield; Gladys Strawn, sister of the bride-groom of Charlotte, N. C., while little Nancy Lee Coffey of Roanoke, a niece of the bride, was flower girl. Paul H. Coffey Jr. of Roanoke, a nephew, was ring bearer. Mr. Zeb Strawn of Charlotte, brother of the groom, was best man, and the ushers were Paul H. Coffey, Roanoke, and Mr. Richard Coffey, brothers of the bride; Mr. Earnie Dick of Nashville, Ten.; Mr. Myron Wolcott of St. Joseph, Mich.; Mr. Richard Bryant of Richmond and Mr. J. Ray Strawn Huntington, W. Va., brother of the groom.

Mr. Strawn is a son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Strawn of Charlotte, and a graduate of the University of North Carolina. He is district supervisor in the Chicago region for Montgomery-Ward Company. His bride is a graduate of Harrisonburg State 'Teachers' [sic] College. For several years she has been a member of the faculty of the Middlebrook school.

Mr. and Mrs. Strawn are including Washington, New York, Canada, and Bermuda on their wedding trip, and after July 16 will be home in the Mar-Main Arms apartment, 125 West Marion, South Bend, Ind. They²⁸⁷⁹⁴ appeared in the census on 15 April 1940 in Gary, Calumet Twp., Lake Co., IN.²⁸⁷⁹⁵ Harvey Sanford Strawn, son of Sylvester Strawn and Henrietta Ellen Griffin, was born on 17 October 1897 in Marshville, Union Co., NC. Harvey died in North Carolina on 19 September 1988 and was buried at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC in September 1988 .²⁸⁷⁹⁶
