Obituary, Mulberry Gap Baptist Assn. Minutes, 1930

Walter Mallicoat, son of W. H. and Ruth Mallicoat, was born Aug 15, 1897. He professed faith in Christ at the age of 17 and joined the Yellow Branch Baptist Church later moved his membership to Cedar Springs Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until death. He always met everybody with a smile and was ready to help those who were in need. He married Dixie Hipshire [sic] July 7, 1923 and to this union was born five children, three girls and two boys. Three preceded him to the Glory Land. On April 28, 1930 our community was shocked by the sudden death of our loved one when he was struck by a tree while he was plowing, and died immediately. He was 32 years old. He was a kind and loving husband and father. He was good to visit the sick, filled his place in the church. It grieves our hearts to give him up, but we must be submissive to the Lord's will. He leaves a wife, two children, mother, two sisters, five brothers and a host of friends to mourn his loss. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Joe Laughner. By his wife.
