Dr. Coffey was an active golfer until a heart attach in 1940 curtailed his playing. He and Marvin Leonard were instrumental in bringing the National Open Golf Tournament to Fort Worth in 1941, and Dr. Coffey often was called the father of Fort Worth golf.
