Woman Found Dead in Newport House Fire ID'd

NEWPORT BEACH - A woman who was found dead inside a home by firefighters Wednesday has been identified as a 90-year-old resident, police said.

Mary Louise Phillips was found by firefighters Wednesday morning after they extinguished the flames in her home on Heather Lane, police officials said. The cause has been ruled accidental and is believed to have been electrical in nature.

An autopsy to determine Phillips' cause of death is scheduled for today.

Mary Phillips passed away, at the age of 90, in Newport Beach, California, on November 14, 2012. She was born December 25, 1921, in McPherson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, O.B. "Phil" Phillips, in 2006. She had lived in So. California for 57 grateful years, all filled with a large family and many, many friends. Memories of Louise include her child-like love of life, her kindness toward others, living life as a Christian example, her love of travel, her hospitality and great sense of style. Louise was a beloved Mom to daughter, Deborah Phillips and son, Mark Phillips and left behind a large extended family. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Pacific View Memorial Park Chapel, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, California, 92605.
