Bettye Jim Coffey, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 4, 2010.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Ms. Coffey was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Erick, Okla., to James and Mamie Coffey. She grew up in Erick and moved to Amarillo in 1949.

She married Ed Ferguson in Clovis, N.M., in 1953 and they had a daughter, Mickye, together.

Bettye worked for many years to support her family as a waitress and was fondly known by her patrons as "Mama" at Cecil's Steak House, Travelodge West and Sutphen's.

She loved her family and adored her only grandchild, Amanda. In her later years, she ran her own day care business.

Ms. Coffey loved all the precious children whom she cared for through the years, and they all called her "Grandma Bettye." She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.E. "Ed" Ferguson; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Mickye Ferguson Davis and husband Michael of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Amanda Uhler and husband Edward of Denver.
