Alvin Stanley Wheeling, 79, of Farmwood Place, Lenoir, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Kirkwood. He was born June 8, 1940, in Caldwell County to the late Henry C. and Ruth Hartley Wheeling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Wheeling; and a sister, Carolyn Young.

Mr. Wheeling had previously owned and operated Wheeling's Grocery before his retirement. He was a member of King's Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as a former deacon, had proudly served his nation in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from King's Creek Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bowers Wheeling of the home; one son, James Stanley Wheeling and wife Beth of Lenoir; one brother, J. Clyde Wheeling of Ferguson; one sister, Joan Dean of St. Petersburg, Florida; three grandchildren, Zachary Wheeling and wife Brook, Olivia Wheeling and Callie Wheeling; and two great-grandchildren, Morrison Wheeling and Andrea Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at 2 p.m. at King's Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Goode. Interment will follow the service at Ferguson-Hartley Cemetery with military honors provided by Caldwell County Veteran's Honor Guard and the National Guard.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Bishop, Doug Brookshire, Kent Waters, Kenny Triplett, Dennis Poarch, Bill McGee, and Zack Wheeling.
