Obituary, unnamed, undated newspaper Veteran Peace Officer Dies Sales Coffey, long time Amarillo and Panhandle peace officer, died in a local hospital yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Coffey, who was 68 years old, resided at 705 Forrest He had been a resident of Amarillo the last 18 years, coming here from Silverton, Tex. He had served on the Amarillo Police Department 14 years and had been engaged in the insurance business the last four years. Before coming to Amarillo, Coffey served as deputy sheriff in two different counties, Cottle and Briscoe. During his service with the local police department, he worked at various posts, serving as plainclothes-man, night scout car officer, and night desk sergeant. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and was a member of the the Methodist Church. He was born Dec. 13, 1876, in Collin County, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eva Coffey; three daughters, Mrs. Walter L. Bain, Phillips; Mrs. Fred Trees, Houston, and Mrs. E. T. Gilkerson, Fresno, Calif., and a son, Bill Coffey, in the U. S. Navy. He also leaves three brothers, Dr. John Coffey, Hedley, and R. H. Coffey and Homer Coffey of McKinney, and three sisters, Mrs. W. D. Goode and Mrs. S. E. Walker, McKinney, and Mrs. W. J. Ledgetter, Paducah. The body is in the care of N. S. Griggs & Sons pending completion of arrangements for funeral services. Coffey Mrs. Eva P. Coffey is Taken by Death Mrs. Eva Phylena Coffey, 65 years old, died yesterday afternoon at 2:40 o'clock at her home, 705 Forrest. She was the widow of Sales S. Coffey, who was a member of the Amarillo Police Department a number of years, and had resided in Amarillo since 1926. Mr. Coffey died here last Dec. 27. Funeral services will be conducted at the chapel of N. S. Griggs & Sons at 4 o'clock this afternoon, with Dr. E. B. Fincher, pastor of Ellwood Park Presbyterian church and Rev. T. Edgar Neal of the San Jacinto Methodist church, officiating. Pallbearers will be W. R. McDowell, Jack Coffee, F. R. Hitchcock, John Odom, Glenn Pyeatt and D. G. Graham, and burial will be in Llano cemetery. Survivors include a son, Bill Coffey of Albuquerque, N. M.; three daughters, Mrs. Walter L. Bain, Borger; Mrs. Fred Trees, Galveston, and Mrs. E. T. Gilkerson, Amarillo. She also leaves two brothers, S. F. Conner, Floydada, and A. B. Conner, Sulphur Springs. Salathiel "Sales" Coffey and Eva Phylena Conner had the following children:
