John Edward Coffey Sr., 68, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2010.

John was born in Lynchburg, Va., the son of the late Isabell Thompson Coffey and Donald M. Coffey Sr. John is also predeceased by his sister, Margaret C. Gibbs.

He was a member of Noland Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News and a member of Churchland Masonic Lodge #276.

John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Claudia and their children, daughter, Jennifer C. Duke; son, John E. Coffey Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren, Jimmy Duke and Nicholas Coffey. Also surviving John are his brothers, Donald (Scarlett), Robert (Iris); and a sister, Sarah C. Spencer (Sammy); and nieces, Denise, Kimberly and Melissa.

A Funeral Service to celebrate John's Life will be held on Monday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at Loving Funeral Home Churchland Chapel with Pastor Chuck Root officiating. A Masonic Service will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Noland Memorial United Methodist Church 5501 Huntington Ave. Newport News, VA 23607 or to the American Diabetes Association.

Claudia Steele Coffey, 67, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. She was a native of Newport News and a member of Noland Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Coffey was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, John Coffey.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer C. Duke; son, John E. Coffey Jr. and his wife, Lisa H. Coffey; grandchildren, Jimmy Duke and Nicholas Coffey; brothers-in-law, Donald C. Coffey Jr. and his wife, Scarlett, Robert C. Coffey and his wife, Iris; sister-in-law, Sarah C. Spencer and husband, Sammy; nieces, Denise, Kimberly, Melissa, Carolyn, and Patty; nephew, Clyde.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday by pastor Chuck Root in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
