Shirley Kathleen Kistner passed away on Sept 5, 2017. Born in Ottawa, Canada, she moved to the U.S. at age 1. After graduating from high school, she opened a dance studio in the U.S.O. and taught during World War II while her husband Burley, served in the Army. In 1949, they moved to Daytona Beach and built and operated the Eventide Motel. In 1953 she opened Shirley Kay School of Dance. In addition, she taught the dance corp and choreographed musicals at Spruce Creek High School, volunteered with the Palmetto Follies and Red Cross, taught a dance workshop at Bethune Cookman, and was a member of Dance Masters of Florida. Besides dancing, she loved oil painting and whistling. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Burley C. and daughter, Suzanne K. Silvis and brother, Howard Elvidge. She is survived by her daughters, Kandi Lanterman, and Kim Boatner. Grandchildren: Billy and Burley Silvis, Lisa Davids, Miles Lanterman, Ben, Julie, Brady, Sam and Luke Boatner, four great grandchildren, Sister Carolyn Willis, Sister-in-law Martha Elvidge, and her beloved nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at Daytona Memorial Park South at 11am on Sept 18, 2017.
