175. Mary "Polly" Coffey⁵⁷⁴ was born in September 1758 in Wilkes Co., NC.

The Coffee-Gilbreath book reports her birthdate as "Sept 1752;..." Her headstone gives the Sept., 1758 date. If Chesley, Jr. birth year of 1755 is correct, then she cannot be his daughter. Mary died on 24 August 1843 at the age of 84 in Maury Co., TN and was buried at Gilbreath-Morrow Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Maury Co., TN.^575,576

According to the Gilbreath source, this Mary Coffee was born Sep. 1858 and died Aug. 24, 1843. The source says that she was a sister of Nathan. But, Nathan was born in 1780, making it very unlikely that he was her brother.

The source also says that she married John Gilbreath, born Jun. 6, 1768, died Nov. 24, 1850. This John is said to be the brother of Elizabeth Gilbreath who married Nathan.

The authors of the cited source wrote that "Mary L. Coffee, born Sep. 29, 1841,..." a daughter of Calvin Coffee (a son of Nathan), "...married Isaih R. Gilbreath...". Isaih is said to have been the "...son of James Gilbreath and Elizabeth Baker, grandson of James Gilbreath and Mary Coffee; Mary Coffee was a daughter of Chesley Coffee."

The March 1990 issue of Coffey Cousins' newsletter says that Mary was born May 5, and that her parents were Chesley Coffey, Jr., and Margaret Baldwin.

She died in Pike Co., IL. John, b. Feb 26, 1776 at Charleston, SC, d. 1844 in Pike Co., IL. M. Apr 17, 1800 at Knoxville, TN. His father was Andrew McClain. Children were: Joseph, b. 1801; Issac, b. 1803; Robert M., b 1805; John Jr., b. 1805 (6?); Margaret Ann, b. 1809; Mary, b. 1811; Malissa Felicia, b. 1811; Daniel Clark, b. 1813; Sarah, b. 1815; James, b. 1818; Chesley, b. 1821; Edwin W., b 1824. Mary "Polly" Coffey and John Gilbreath Sr.⁵⁷⁷ were married circa 1788 in Kentucky. John Gilbreath Sr., son of Andrew Gilbreath and Nancy Hicklin, was born on 6 June 1768 in Virginia. He appeared in the census on 7 November 1850 in Maury Co., TN.⁵⁷⁸ John died on 24 November 1850 at the age of 82 in Maury Co., TN and was buried at Gilbreath-Morrow Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Maury Co., TN.^579,580
