CECIL COFFEY

Cecil Coffey, age 83, of Thorn Hill, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 in the Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home.

She was a member of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Coffey; daughter, Audrey Banks; parents, Simmie and Lula Dalton, and one brother and three sisters.

Survivors include daughter, Joann Dalton, and son, Alvin Coffey of Bean Station; two brothers, Ira C. Dalton and Berlie Dalton of Thorn Hill; eight grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the chapel of Mayes Mortuary with the Rev. Arnold Dalton and the Rev. Clifton Wilmoth officiating. Burial will be in the Coffey Cemetery in Thorn Hill. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the funeral home.

Cecil Dalton and Rufus Kyle Coffey were married in September 1940. Rufus Kyle Coffey, son of Berry Wisdom Lafette Coffey and Mary Jane Sheffield, was born on 14 May 1912 in Idol, Grainger Co., TN.³⁵¹⁷² He lived with his parents in Grainger Co., TN on 10 January 1920. He lived with his parents in Grainger Co., TN on 14 April 1930. Rufus died on 5 October 1994 at the age of 82 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jeffferson City, Jefferson Co., TN and was buried at Coffey Cemetery in Thorn Hill, Grainger Co., TN.^{35173,35174,35175}

Coffey, Rufus Kyle, age 82 of Thorn Hill TN was born May 14, 1912 departed this life October 5, 1994 at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Rev. Berry W. and Mary Jane (Sheffield) Coffey. He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. He professed faith in Christ an joined the Oak Hill Baptist Church January 6, 1925 where he remained a member until death. He was one of the singing leaders of Oak Hill for many years. He served as church clerk form September, 1953 to September 1987. Survivors included his wife, Cecil ( Dalton ) Coffey of Thorn Hill, daughters Joanna Dalton of Bean Station, Audrey Bank of Thorn Hill, son, Alvin Coffey of Bean Station, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held Tuesday Oct 8, 1994 at Oak Hill Church with Jack Free and Rev. Bill Dalton officiating. Singer were the Liberty Quartet. Burial in the Coffey Cemetery in Thorn Hill Sadly missed by wife and family.

Rufus Kyle Coffey was born, lived, died, and buried on this land. This cemetery is located on the old Coffey Homestead and Rufus never lived out of the house he was born in. Rufus' home did not have electricity until 1985 when Powell Valley Electric Co-op received a right-a-way to string power lines to the Coffey house.
