Thomas Coleman Coffey was born circa 1819 in Kentucky.¹⁰³⁶ He appeared in the census in 1840 in Wayne Co., KY.¹⁰³⁷ He patented land on 21 August 1855 in Wayne Co., KY¹⁰³⁸ Thomas patented land on 8 October 1855 in Wayne Co., KY¹⁰³⁹ Thomas died in Lincoln Co., KY on 9 December 1890 and was buried at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, Lincoln Co., KY in December 1890 .^1040,1041

Marvin Coffey writes in his supplement to his James B. Coffey: Ancestors, that Thomas Coleman died 9 Dec. 1890; wife Polly Ann died 25 May 1856, age 25 yrs., 7 mos., 24 days. He also noted that these dates do not agree with marriage date of 1839. He listed daughters of the marriage to Polly Ann as: Amanda, born 13 April 1851; Ollie, born 25 March 1853; Mary W., born 30 June 1855; and Sarah Elizabeth, died 14 June 1847 at age 1 yr., 6 mos., 1 day. A son of Thomas Coleman was James Marshall Coffey, died 17 May 1907. Polly Ann is not one of his known four wives listed here.

Thomas Coleman Coffey and Patience Jane Miller were married on 23 August 1848.¹⁰⁴³ They^¹⁰⁴³ appeared in the census on 2 September 1850 in Wayne Co., KY.¹⁰⁴⁴

Except for the child Marshal, the children enumerated in the 1850 census must have been by a previous wife. Patience Jane Miller, daughter of John Miller and Mary , was born circa 1828 in Kentucky.¹⁰⁴⁵ Patience died in Wayne Co., KY in April 1855.
