Batt was born on 4 January 1856 in Kentucky. Mary died in McKinney, Lincoln Co., KY on 31 August 1889 of consumption and was buried at McKinney Cemetery in McKinney, Lincoln Co., KY in September 1889 .¹²⁷⁰⁶

In memory of Mrs. W. A. Coffey

McKinney and vicinity are in gloom by the death of Mrs. Mary Bell Coffey, wife of W.A. Coffey. On the eve of Aug. 31st, aged 33 years, that dread disease consumption, claimed her as his victim. Her host of friends could not help but know that she would soon have to go yet the suddenness with which she was taken was unexpected. All that a true husband and administering friends could do was done, to alleviate her sufferings and make her last days on earth as pleasant as possible. A devoted wife and fond Christian mother has been called from a pleasant and happy earthly home and transplanted in the fair and happy home not made with hands. A husband and three bright little children are left to realize and mourn the loss of wife and mother. The bereaved husband is heartbroken and extends his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the many friends and neighbors for their every attention and kindness to his wife.
