Army veteran of World War II and a member of Bruce's Chahpel Methodist Church. He was also a member of Antioch Lodge 424. Surviors include his wife, Essie Gilpin Coffey; a son, William Fuller Coffey of Danville; a daughter, Betty Jean Spoonamore of Danville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Addison Coffey. Funeral services were June 27 [1997] at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jay Robertson officiating. Burial was in Williams Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Coffey, Jim Coffey, Jack Coffey, Roger Coffey, Jerel Coffey, Dudley Spoonamore and Scott Dicison. Essie Pearl Gilpin was born on 22 October 1917. Essie died on 8 January 2005 at the age of 87 in Kentucky and was buried at Williams Cemetery in Phil, Casey Co., KY.42129 Essie Gilpin Coffey, 87, of Danville, formerly of Liberty, died Saturday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation. Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late George and Louisa Wickersham Gilpin. She was a retired teacher, having taught in Casey County and Boyle County schools, a member of Bruce's Chapel United Methodist Church and the widow of Chester Coffey. Survivors include a son, William F. Coffey of Danville; a daughter, Betty Jean Spoonamore of Danville; a sister, Seleta Wilham of Liberty; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Jeral Coffey. Burial will be in Williams Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian, Brent, Denton, Keith and Joe Gilpin, Bruce Wilham and Larry Allen. Honorary pallbearers are John and Dudley Spoonamore and James Dickinson.
