John died in Osage Co., OK on 21 February 1903 by drowning and was buried at Pawhuska City Cemetery in Pawhuska, Osage Co., OK in February 1903 .^25781,25782

"John Soderstrom, a prominent citizen of Pawhuska, Osage nation, was drowned in Bird creek near that city while investigating the ice to ascertain if thick enough to put up. His body was recovered under the ice."
