STUARTS DRAFT-Odie James Coffey, 61, of 121 Wayne Ave., Stuarts Draft, died at 7 a.m. yesterday in Waynesboro Community Hospital.

Mr. Coffey was born in Lyndhurst, June 27, 1913, a son of the late Nelson and Lucy Margaret Mutherspaw Coffey. He was a constituency member of the Sherando United Methodist Church. He was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Louise Fretwell Pannell Coffey; one [stepdaughter] daughter, Mrs. Roy P. (Ruby Lee) Sweet of Route 2, Staunton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Gene (Phyllis) Childress and Mrs. Shelvia Jean Long, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Linwood Coffey of Alexandria, Frank H. Coffey of Staunton and Charles L. Coffey, Sr. of Stuarts Draft; four [step]grandsons, three [step]great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. [Odie James Coffey had no natural children]

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Sherando United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clyde W. Weaver Jr., with interment in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Elmer Meadows Jr., Ralph Harris, Charles Coffey,Jr., Anthony Coffey, Roger Welcher and Ward Lee Cohron.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William Toomy, Wallace Lotts, Dave Hewitt, Erskine Hall, Taylor Almarode, James Campbell, Wallace Lamb, Jake C. Fretwell, Fred Hanger Jr., Robert J. Fitzgerald, Homer Nuckles and Edwin Hoggsett.

The body will remain in the Etter Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends form 7 to 8 tonight.

Odie James Coffey and Nell Lee Chandler were married. Nell Lee Chandler was born on 7 May 1912 in Staunton, Independent City., VA. Nell died in Lyndhurst, Augusta Co., VA on 29 November 1971 and was buried at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton, Independent City., VA in December 1971 .²⁸⁹⁰¹

Odie James Coffey and Ruth Louise Fretwell were married on 17 February 1973 in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA.²⁸⁹⁰² Ruth Louise Fretwell, daughter of James Fulton Fretwell and Sallie Margaret Pannell, was born on 5 May 1910 in Virginia.
