According to Arkansas Russel, a Negro youth whom young Riddle had picked up coming toward Waynesboro, and who was slightly injured, the dead youth failed to make a turn and lost control of his car which plunged over an embankment into the abandoned race about eight feet in depth. His neck was broken. The youth who is a son of John W. Riddle, who with Mrs. Riddle, the youth's mother, four sisters and six brothers survive.
