Fred Ray "Fred" Coffey, son of Cyrus E. Fred Ray Coffey, 62, of Love died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Richmond, after a prolonged illness.

Mr. Coffey was a member of Mt. Top Christian Church. He was a veteran of World War II and had been employed by Crompton Shenandoah Co. and Wayne Manufacturing Corp. He was born in Augusta County on June 10, 1906, a son of the late Cyrus E. and Eliza Miller Coffey.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vernecie Etta Coffey; two sons, Landon R. Coffey and Leland R. Coffey, both of Lyndhurst; one brother, Harry T. Coffey, of Route 2, Waynesboro; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Wilhelm of Route 1, Waynesboro, and Mrs. Minnie V. Coffey, Mrs Helen Hewitt, and Mrs. Alda Henderson, all of Lyndhurst; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mt. Top Christian Chruch, conducted by the Rev. Melvin Thompson, assisted by the Rev. Basil Bish and the Rev. Roy Kiser. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until 12 noon Saturday when it will be placed in the church.

Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9339.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
