Henry Marshall Everitt, 88, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday at his home, Route 1, Lyndhurst. Mr. Everitt was a member of the Mt. Top Christian Church and was the last member of his immediate family. Before his retirement he operated a sawmill and was a retired merchant and farmer. He was born on Oct. 25, 1880, in Nelson County, a son of the late Elias and Martha Ann Demastus Everitt. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Clatis Coffey Everitt; one daughter, Miss Lucy Ann Everitt, at home; two sons, Shelby Lee Everitt of Love and Eugene L. Everitt, at home; also the following children by his marriage to the late Mrs. Smittie Bell Coffey Everitt, two sons, Henry Willard Everitt of Salem and George Ray Everitt of Ft. Defiance, and one daughter, Mrs. Saylor (Annie) Coffey Sr. of Love; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until this evening when it will be returned to his residence where it will remain until one hour prior to the service. The body will be placed in the Mt. Top Christian Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday for viewing. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church, conducted by the Rev. Cecil O. Rhodes of Shenandoah, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Thompson of Lynchburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family will requests that memorial gifts be made to the Mt. Top Christian Church. Active pallbearers will be Jake Hewitt, Jake Coffey, Forest Coffey, Saylor Coffey Jr., Zandy Coffey and Hugh Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Hewitt, John Coffey, Ralph Hewitt, Harry A. Miller and Elwood Fitzgerald. Mrs. Clatis Everitt, 63, of Love was dead on arrival at Waynesboro Community Hospital at 1:15 p.m. today. Mrs. Everitt was a member of the Mountain Top Christian Church and was the widow of Henry Marshall Everitt, who died June 29, 1969. She was born at Love June 13, 1908, a daughter of the late John J. and Lucy Ann Demastus Coffey. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Lucy Ann Everitt of Love; two sons, Eugene L. Everitt and Shelby Lee Everitt, both of Love; one step-daughter, Mrs. Saylor Coffey of Love; two step-sons, George Ray Everitt of Ft. Defiance and Henry W. Everitt at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Demasters of Love, Mrs. Madge Coffey and Mrs. Ida Brydge, both of Lyndhurst; two brothers, Andrew Coffey and Jacob Coffey, both of Fishersville; also three grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until Saturday morning when it will be returned to the residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
A funeral service for Mrs. Clatis Everitt, 63, of Love, will be held Sunday in the Mountain Top Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Cecil O. Rhodes, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Paquin, with interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Everitt was dead on arrival at Waynesboro Community Hospital at 1:15 a.m. Friday. Active pallbearers will be Freddie Garland, Richard L. Harlow, Ronnie Talley, Junior Coffey, Jake Hewitt and Forest Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be John M. Coffey, Ralph Hewitt, Elliot Boyd, Willie Henderson, and nephews of the deceased.
