Ray, 85, Boulder, Wyo., a resident of Salt Lake City for two years, died Sunday in Boulder after a lingering Illness. Born March 26 1867, in North Carolina, he was a son of William and Virginia Coffee Ray. He married Alferna Shelby in Tennessee May 14, 1893. She died in January, 1926. He is survived by three sons and six daughters: W. O. Ray, Big Piney, Wyo.; James E. Ray, Fontana, Cal.; Charlea A. Ray, Visalia, Cal.; Mrs. Viola Ray Lehmer, Salt Lake City: Mrs. Margaret Baldwin and Mrs. Virginia Springman, Alturuas, Cal.; Anna Lozier, Boulder, Wyo.; Mrs. Naomi Quinn, Madres, Ore,; Mrs. Dorothy Rugg, Montague, Cal.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Gilead Baptist Church, 460 Concord St., Salt Lake City, by Rev. Vernon H. Kendall, pastor. Friends may call at 574 East 1st South Tuesday and until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church 20 minutes prior to services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. John Alexander Ray and Alferna Belle Shelby were married on 12 May 1894 in Union Co., TN.18637 Alferna Belle Shelby was born on 1 January 1873 in Lawrence Co., TN. Alferna died in Salt Lake Co., UT on 4 January 1926 and was buried at Salt Lake City Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., UT in January 1926 .18638 |
