Born March 1, 1909 in Butler, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late R. T. and Lona Smith. Pauline was active in the Butler Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed delivering meal on wheels up until the age of 96. She always looked forward to Flag Day and hearing and reading about the history of Butler. She graduated from the Business College in Johnson City, Tennessee. She is survived by a daughter; Margaret Ashley of Boone, two grandsons; Thomas Ashley and wife Jane of Boone and Terry Ashley and wife Melba of Boone, seven great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Stuart Coffey, a brother; Robert Smith, one grandson, Michael Ashley, and a son in law; Dale Ashley. Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Smith Coffey will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2011 at 2 o'clock at the Butler Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Butler Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 o'clock at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Butler Baptist Church, 198 Piercetown Road, Butler, Tennessee. Memorial Funeral Home in Elizabethton is serving the Coffey family.
