Bill Coffey died peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. He led a gentle and loving life and will be missed and remembered by his family and many friends.

William Milton Coffey was born August 15, 1924 on Lookout Mountain, Tenn., to Charles Shelby and Margaret Anderson Coffey. He loved and honored his wife of 52 years, Ruth Ann Pojman Coffey. He is also survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael A. Coffey and Becki Larrinaga, William M. and Sandra A. Coffey and Timothy P. Coffey and Page Oliver; three grandchildren, Lucas A. Coffey, Austin Graham and Reese Dulaney Coffey. His daughter, Cynthia Ann Coffey preceded him in April. Bill leaves behind siblings, Margaret Rawlings of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., the Reverend Jonathan B. Coffey of Palm City, Fl., and Robert Lewis Coffey of Powder Springs, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill attended Baylor Military School in Chattanooga, served as a captain in the U.S. Army in WW II, graduated from the University of Tennessee Law School in Knoxville before moving to Washington D.C. to work for AAA. He became the General Manager of the AAA Texas Division, building it into one of the largest and most successful in the company. After retiring from AAA, he ran several businesses including Westlake Florist and Rowan Oak B&B.

He had a loving personality, warm smile, great sense of humor and acceptance of all people with warmth and charm. The perfect southern gentleman was an often apt description. He was a retired Rotarian and served as deacon in several Presbyterian churches. He loved to play bridge and travel and was happiest when surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin followed by a reception. Contributions celebrating his life may be made to the church, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
