546. Matilda Verlincia "Linchy" Coffey was born circa 1823 in Burke Co., NC. She appeared in the census on 22 July 1850 in Johns River Twp., Caldwell Co., NC.²²⁷⁷ Matilda appeared in the census on 4 June 1860 in Johns River Twp., Caldwell Co., NC.²²⁷⁸ She lived with her son Allison in Johns River Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 11 June 1880.

Matilda Verlincia "Linchy" Coffey and James Thaddeus Warsaw Perkins were married on 14 April 1845 in Burke Co., NC.²²⁷⁹

In 1850 there were two sons in the house; John and Thomas, both age 4 and, John was enumerated as "dumb." In 1860 John was 16 years old and Thomas was 14.

Depending on which census is chosen to more closely depict the ages of the children, it appears that Verlincia had John by someone other than Perkins and, that Allison Perkins was Thad's son by a previous wife. This leaves Thomas and Thad Jr. to be the only children born to Verlincia after her marriage to Perkins. James Thaddeus Warsaw Perkins, son of Alexander Perkins and Rebecca Moore, was born about 1823 in North Carolina. James died in North Carolina about 1848.

James must have died prior to 1850. He does not appear in the census with his wife and children that year. Verlincia and children were enumeraed as neighbors to James' parents, Alexander and Rebecca Perkins in the Johns River district of Caldwell Co., NC.

The death certificate for son Allison reports that Allison's father was named Alex and mother Linsey Coffey.

Matilda Verlincia "Linchy" Coffey and James Thaddeus Warsaw Perkins had the following children:

2136	ii.	John Perkins was born circa 1845 in North Carolina. The 1850 census labeled this child as "dumb." He and Thomas were the same age in 1850 but, in 1860 John is two years older than Thomas.
2137	iii.	Thomas Perkins was born about 1846 in North Carolina.
+2138	iv.	J. Thaddeus "Thad" Perkins.
